Acceptance and Visa
Once the application has been received, UDD reviews the students’ documents and then issues the acceptance letter, which is required to apply for the Student Visa. After receiving the acceptance letter, the student may begin the visa process as well as obtain medical insurance for their stay in Chile.
- For stays of less than 180 days: Students may enter the country with a Temporary Stay Permit (Permanencia Transitoria). This permit does not require prior authorization or processing, unless the country of origin appears on the following list. The permit is initially valid for 90 days and may be extended for an additional 90 days. Students entering with this permit must apply for the extension before the first 90 days in Chile have ended. The extension has an associated cost of USD 100 and must be completed online during the third month of the stay.
- For stays of more than 180 days: Students are required to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit, student subcategory. The visa application review may take up to four months; therefore, it is recommended to begin the process well in advance. With the Temporary Residence Permit, students may apply for their foreign ID card (cédula de identidad para extranjeros) within the first 30 days in the country. Check this link for more information.
Health Insurance
It is the responsibility of each student to obtain medical insurance according to their health needs that covers their entire stay in Chile. In addition, the insurance must meet the following requirements:
- The policy must include the student’s full name, exactly as it appears in the passport.
- Coverage dates: The policy must be valid for the entire period of stay in the country.
- Minimum coverage of USD 30,000 for medical assistance and/or illness.
- Explicit coverage for COVID-19.
- Inclusion of medical and funeral repatriation services.
*It is important that each student is familiar with their policy number, information about the medical centers and hospitals where the insurance is valid and accepted, as well as the emergency contact details of the insurance company in case of any incident.
