Universidad del Desarrollo, through the COIL UDD Program, has actively promoted the integration of this collaborative learning methodology into various courses, with the aim of enabling students to develop international competencies without the need to travel abroad.
Through this strategy, UDD students work with peers from other countries on joint projects and problem-solving from a global perspective. This experience helps them strengthen skills such as intercultural communication, teamwork in diverse contexts, and problem-solving in international settings.
With this initiative, the university seeks to broaden access to international experiences by facilitating connections with other cultures and educational systems鈥攚ithout the barriers posed by physical mobility.
By implementing a COIL, you will be applying an innovative international learning methodology recognized worldwide. In doing so, you will expand your pedagogical practice as an educator.
By designing a COIL within your course, you will gain insight into how your discipline/content is approached in other countries, giving your course an international perspective.
Planning a course in this format will allow you to connect with international peers, with whom you can develop future research and collaborative activities. In this way, you will expand your international network.
Before the course, both professors work together planning the objectives and designing the actitivies that will be carried out by students within the course.
Even though the UDD course can be virtual or on-campus, synchronous sessiones together with the foreign university are conducted online.
The duration of the collaboration will be between 4 and 12 weeks. This is to ensure that students have enough time to develop cultural competences during the experience.
Students will mostly work in an asynchronous way, however, the collaboration should have an opening and closing session.
